Bruce Mason Centre Wins! The Bruce Mason Centre has been recognised for its community focus at this year’s Westpac Auckland North Business Awards. While awarding the North Shore Times Excellence in Not for Profit Award, judges recognised the Takapuna function centre as an outstanding business in this category. “This iconic north Auckland venue shows excellent management, strategic planning and governance to become one of the premier event centres in New Zealand,” says Matt Bellingham, Convenor of Judges. “The company really understands its target market, its marketing attracts the crowds and its service is excellent in an industry fraught with difficulties – all the while playing a significant part in the local community and giving back in so many ways.” Since opening its doors 15 years ago, the Bruce Mason Centre has hosted over two million visitors, more than 2,000 thousand public performances and over 9,000 meetings, conferences, dinners and functions. As Auckland’s only 1,100+ seat theatre, it caters for a wide range of groups from not-for-profit community events through to top line international performers – including Danny Bhoy during the New Zealand Comedy Festival. The Bruce Mason Centre offers a unique mix of affordable programming for the community on a regular basis like school holiday shows, twice weekly Mums and Kids Story Time, monthly Morning Melodies for seniors and the Auckland Symphony Orchestra Free Family Concerts, held three times a year. Manager Business Development – North for Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development, Ngaio Merrick, says this award recognises the importance of these organisations. “Not for profit groups play a critical role in the local community,” says Ms Merrick. “We are delighted that the Bruce Mason Centre has been recognised for its long serving service to the community.” The annual Westpac Auckland North Business Awards celebrates excellence in the local business community and honours successful companies across 12 awards categories.
